Pcat practice exam critical reading6/8/2023 Collins (which I did not use but others highly recommend it). If you need to really relearn the math you can use Kaplan to get a general idea of what is expected, but you will need other material such as old textbooks or Dr. I should also note though that the Kaplan book and class are superb resources for studying the sciences, but reading and math were only nice as a refresher. They give you an extra review book you'll use during the online class, flashcards, and more online practice material (workshops, quizzes, full length tests). If you are willing to shell out extra money to take the Kaplan online class that can help as well. Kaplan is a must have book in my opinion. Not trying to dissuade anyone from pursuing their dreams, but I just feel that I need to put things into financial perspective as well so people can make more informed decisions are about their careers. Financially speaking, that's not very successful when you compare that to dentists who make $150k with only 4 years of school, MDs who make $200k+ with 4 years of school and 3+ years residency, or even PAs who already make $90-100k with only 2 years of school. Say you go the residency route, that's a 6 year investment (4 years pharmacy school + 2 years residency) and your salary will end up being maybe $120-140k depending on where you live (assuming salaries don't decrease in the following years). Most likely anything other than retail will require residency which unlike medical school where 90% of graduates get matched, only ~60% of PharmDs applying to residency get matched.įurthermore "successful" career is relative. Supply growing 2x faster than demand.Īlso yes there are many options outside of retail, but it is important to mention that retail still constitute the vast majority of pharmacist jobs at over 60 percent and hospital comes in second at 25%. Physicians: 9140 new jobs per year vs.NPs: 6220 new jobs per year vs 20,000 new grads in 2015.PAs: 3960 new jobs per year vs 8,770 new grads in 2017.Supply growing 8x faster than demand (14,502 divided by 1740) Pharmacist: 1740 new jobs per year vs.While you are correct that most healthcare careers are becoming saturated, it's important to mention that pharmacy is by far the worst. Don't let them waste your time and don't give them the satisfaction of arguing with them. It's really about over-preparing yourself, so that when you come to the exam, you can easily answer all of the questions.Īnother thing: you don't have to respond to all of these people trying to dissuade you from going to pharmacy school. In addition, taking calc 2 helped me breeze through quantitative reasoning. I didn't, but I was so lucky that my introductory bio classes covered the majority of the material that is tested on the bio portion of the exam. Also, I think it's vital that you complete the majority of your pre-requisite classes prior to sitting for the PCAT again. Now, with regards to the PCAT, I used the Kaplan book to study, alongside the Hank Green anatomy & physiology videos on YouTube to review further. Almost every healthcare career is saturated! I truly believe that if you are able to work hard, you can have a successful career as a pharmacist. There are numerous career paths for a PharmD degree that transcend far beyond the retail pharmacy chain. But don't let these other people discourage you from joining the profession.
